With a combined 20+ years in the Western retail industry, this partnership dawned in the doorway of a Western store in Nashville, TN in 2015. As manager, Michael was cultivating a customer-forward culture, investing time in employees and clients alike. When Dustin walked in looking for a job one day, what started as a typical hiring process quickly turned into a lasting friendship with kindred purpose. Michael saw something special in Dustin: raw talent, work ethic, and an undeniable passion for people and Western culture. He took Dustin under his wing, and together they thrived in the business. Even as their careers took them in different directions- Michael rising to manage the full fleet of retail stores and Dustin leaving to carve his own path as the creator of a successful Western brand- the two continued to pursue retail with the same core values in mind:

Honesty, Customer Centricity, and Quality.

The Travel Jack story began late one night when Michael walked nearly four miles to find an open restaurant in a 6500 ft elevation city (courtesy of the pandemic and painfully inaccurate Google listings). He later arrived at the airport with swollen feet and a pair of barely broken-in boots. Since he had never been inclined toward the inconvenience of traveling with a giant wooden boot jack, Michael found himself stuck — literally — in his boots. With the help of a kind TSA agent and some white-knuckled boot removal gymnastics, the Travel Jack dream was born while sitting in an airport chair.

“There has to be a travel-sized boot jack,” he thought.

But there wasn’t.

So, Michael did what anyone with a vision would do: he picked up the phone and called Dustin to kick the idea around.

That call led to Travel Jack - 5 years in the making: a compact, collapsible, travel-sized boot jack built for people who live in their boots and love the journey.

From a friendship formed in a Western store to a company built on grit, innovation, and a shared love for the Western way of life — this is our story.

And it’s just getting started.
